KSE100 at Record High

On Monday, 7th October 2024, the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) witnessed a massive surge. The KSE-100 Index opened with a 120-point gain, soared by 1,516 points intraday, and briefly lost 228 points before closing strongly at 84,910 points, marking a remarkable net gain of 1,378 points. This follows the previous day's gain of 810 points. Over the last five trading sessions, the KSE-100 Index has accumulated a total of 3,796 points. Year-to-date, the index has gained an impressive 36%, reflecting sustained positive momentum in the market.

Major Gainers Today:

  • Hum Network (HUMNL) surged 10.0% to close at PKR 11.0.
  • Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC) also increased by 10.0%, closing at PKR 389.9.
  • Oil & Gas Development Company (OGDC) gained 7.7%, closing at PKR 166.9.
  • Sui Northern Gas Pipelines (SNGP) saw a rise of 7.2%, closing at PKR 71.6.
  • Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) gained 6.8%, closing at PKR 126.7.

Major Gainers in the Last 5 Trading Sessions:

  • Nishat (Chun.) (NCL) surged 27.1%, closing at PKR 29.6.
  • Pakistan Petroleum (PPL) climbed 18.6%, closing at PKR 126.69.
  • Oil & Gas Development Company (OGDC) saw an increase of 16.4%, reaching PKR 166.92.
  • Pakistan State Oil (PSO) gained 15.8%, closing at PKR 186.77.
  • Agritech Limited (AGL) rose 14.9%, closing at PKR 38.69

Major Losers Today:

  • Bunnys Limited (BNL) dropped 5.0%, closing at PKR 12.8.
  • Kohinoor Power (KOHP) declined by 3.5%, ending at PKR 7.1.
  • Lalpir Power (LPL) fell 3.3%, closing at PKR 17.5.
  • Hub Power Company (HUBC) saw a 2.9% decrease, finishing at PKR 121.7.
  • Kohinoor Energy (KOHE) also fell 2.9%, closing at PKR 27.7.

  • TPL Corp Ltd (TPL) dropped 15.2%, closing at PKR 4.23.
  • Ghani Value Glass (GVGL) declined 14.2%, closing at PKR 38.0.
  • IBL HealthCare (IBLHL) saw a 13.4% drop, ending at PKR 26.42.
  • Ghandhara Automobile (GAL) fell 11.3%, closing at PKR 193.25.

Oil prices were under pressure this week. Brent crude oil futures fell 1.9% to $73 per barrel on Friday, registering the biggest weekly loss since early September, with prices dropping over 7%. The decline was attributed to weaker demand forecasts from OPEC and the International Energy Agency (IEA), slowing economic growth in China, and signs of easing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. Both OPEC and the IEA revised down their demand forecasts for 2024 and 2025. China's refinery output declined for the sixth consecutive month, impacted by weak fuel demand and the growing adoption of electric vehicles (EVs). Meanwhile, U.S. crude oil production reached a new record last week. PSX Strongly Rebounds

The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) reacted positively to the conclusion of the IMF staff-level agreement and has now recovered a substantial part of the losses sustained on Monday. Today, out of the 1,139-point gain in the KSE-100 Index, around 800 points were contributed by UBL, OGDC, PPL, and Meezan Bank.
